It does sort of seem like the COVID-19 situation in this country seems to be have been getting slightly better ahead of the proposed July 19th ‘Freedom Date’, but it’s now being claimed that teenagers are using lemon juice to fake positive test results so that their whole class gets sent home and doesn’t have to go to school.

Many people are blaming TikTok for this as videos on the platform have helped publicise how to fake lateral flow tests, saying that apple sauce, Coca Cola, vinegar, hand sanitiser, kiwi fruit and lemon juice are all viable ways to simulate a positive result on them. There’s even a dedicated account called @.fakecovidtests with over 20,000 followers. One video has 2.5 million views as well:

Geoff Barton – the General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders – said the following about the worrying trend:
We are sure this involves a very small minority of pupils, and that for the most part the tests are used correctly.
However, we would urge parents to ensure that tests are not being misused, and we would suggest to pupils who are interested in chemical reactions that the best place to learn about them is in chemistry lessons in school.
Lol good one, I don’t think that kids are gonna wanna learn chemistry in a classroom when they could be using it to get up to no good and skive school. Have you even seen ‘Breaking Bad’ Geoff Barton?
Anyway, this is quite stupid that kids are doing this and contributing to more positive case numbers in this country and I’m not really sure why they’re doing it because they’ll probably have to self isolate along with their families for a week because of it, so it’s not like they’ll be skipping school and having loads of fun. Maybe sitting alone in a room is more fun for some of them though?
