A 17-year-old Russian girl has been exposed as the alleged mastermind behind the sinister online suicide game ‘Blue Whale’.

This sick craze has led to police investigations in Russia after dozens of vulnerable teenagers committed suicide as part of the final level of the game.
It’s shocking that a young girl has had such a dark and terrifying influence on so many people’s lives. The unnamed teenager, who has now been arrested, reportedly threatened victims that she would murder their family if they didn’t carry out the orders and tasks that she set them.

A 21-year-old man has also been arrested in relation to the game after being accused of urging young girls to take their own lives. From the sounds of things she was a victim of the game herself, but instead of completing the final level she chose to become an ‘admin’ on the deadly site in order to lure others into it.
Colonel Irina Volk, of the Russian Interior Ministry, said:
This administrator was sending particular tasks – often life-threatening – to each of several dozen members of the group.
In contrast to similar groups, teenagers in this group were blackmailed with death threats against them or their relatives for not completing the tasks.
The girl would send players 50 tasks, which were to be completed in 50 days. These were all made to create “physically traumatising situations” until the victim is urged to commit suicide for the final level. Some of the tasks included watching horror movies, waking up in the middle of the night and self-harming. Grim.

Earlier this summer 26-year-old Ilya Sidorov was also arrested – he was allegedly the main mastermind behind this sick and twisted game and it is believed he was the one who had allocated the admin roles.
Earlier this year when we reported on ‘Blue Whale’ I said at the end of the article that I hoped the police got to the bottom of who was behind it so that they couldn’t get to anymore vulnerable teenagers. Although it’s shocking and upsetting that one of those teenagers went on to become an administrator for the game, at least it sounds like the police have finally started to shut this thing down from the inside.
RIP to the victims of ‘Blue Whale’ and if you ever hear about or catch anyone playing this game then call the police immediately.
