A teenager was stabbed 14 times in an attack planned on Snapchat after her gender was revealed following a sex act with a boy who was unaware that she was trans.
The girl, who was 18 at the time, met with the group in a car park in Harrow, northwest London, with the belief that they were all going to a roller disco.
Instead, Summer Betts-Ramsey, 20, Bradley Harris, 18, Camron Osei, 18, Shiloh Hindes, 18, and a 17-year-old boy all attacked the girl, and have now admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The court heard how the girl was with Bradley Harris at his home last year when a mutual friend called to tell him that she was ‘trans’. Having been attacked in the past because of being transgender, the girl denied it. Which probably wasn’t the right thing to do, given that the pair were about to get intimate and the lad should have the right to know.
Following the phone call, Harris and the girl kissed, and she performed oral sex on him.
Soon afterwards, another friend told Harris that the girl was trans, and she denied it again. Harris then pulled a knife on her and threatened to stab her if she lied to him. At that point, she admitted she was transgender and was asked to leave.
That should have been that, but when Harris told his buddies that she had lied to him, they all put together a plan to viciously assault the girl.
On the day of the attack, the girl left her home, believing she was going roller-skating with the group. Instead, they were all waiting for her in masks.
As she got to a nearby car park, she was ‘immediately attacked’, and she had no time to say or do anything to defend herself.
Once she was on the ground, Betts-Ramsey took out a knife and stabbed her 14 times. As she was being stabbed, the rest of the group rained down kicks and punches for about 45 seconds before they fled the scene.
Luckily, witnesses rushed to her aid and called an ambulance, and despite several stab wounds and a weak pulse, she survived.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman said she still has ‘thick scars’ as a result of the attack.
‘I find it difficult to trust people. I’m always in fear of leaving my house. I never thought someone could have so much hatred towards me.’
The sentencing is actually taking place today, so it will be interesting to see what sentences the group receives. For some reason, they have been charged with GBH and not attempted murder, so I guess deliberate intent to murder wasn’t proven despite the multiple stab wounds endured by the victim.
I wonder whether the lack of informed consent by the victim when engaging in a sexual act with one of her attackers will come into it at all? Obviously that’s no excuse to physically harm someone, especially not to the extent they did, but is that in itself considered a crime?
