Taylor Swift has offered her condolences to the families of the children killed and injured at a Taylor Swift-inspired dance class in Stockport yesterday, where a 17-year-old male went on a mass stabbing spree, killing two children and injuring 11 more + 2 adults, of which 8 are in critical condition.
Taylor Swift put out the following statement on Instagram:
‘The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock.
‘The loss of life and innocence and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and the first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class.
I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.
What else can she say really? Obviously it’s not Taylor Swift’s fault that some evil lunatic decided to specifically target a group of little girls at a Taylor Swift-themed event on the other side of the world, but it’s got to be pretty shocking for her to read about.
There’s been a load of fake/unconfirmed news on the perpetrator circulating on social media, mostly from people trying to push some kind of racist agenda. The only details about him released so far by the police is that he’s a 17-year-old male who was born in Cardiff, but given his age, who knows how long it will be until we are told any more about this individual.
All we can say for sure is that whether this monster’s motive was the result of culturally-ingrained misoginy or whether he was some kind of incel who was radicalised online, the government isn’t doing nearly enough to combat this sort of thing. Of course this is under the assumption that he deliberately targeted little girls and women, and that it wasn’t just a random, opportunistic mass stabbing. Again, it’s hard to say too much until we know more details.
RIP to the victims and thoughts with their friends and families.
