Taika Waititi is pretty much everyone’s flavour of the month/year right now after making a bunch of sick movies like ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘JoJo Rabbit’, so it’s no surprise that Netflix have tapped him up to adapt two Roald Dahl classics into animated series for them. Doesn’t that sounds like the perfect combination on all fronts?

Taika will be writing, producing and directing two animated series based on ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ – the first being an entirely new imagining of the classic story whilst the second will be a brand new adventure focussing on the Oompa Loompas. Here’s what Netflix Vice President of Original Animation Melissa Cobb said about the collaboration:
Very Exciting Thing: Taika Waititi will write and direct Netflix’s first ~two~ Roald Dahl animated series events – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a wholly original take on the Oompa-Loompas.

Finding just the right creative partner to bring Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Oompa-Loompas to life in animation was a daunting task…until Taika walked into the room.
Then, it was really obvious. If Dahl had created a character of a filmmaker to adapt his work, I’m pretty sure he would have created Taika.
Yeah to be honest having seen his movies I’ve gotta agree with what she’s saying there. I don’t think there’s anyone out there right now who will capture the vision of Roald Dahl perfectly, so this is pretty much a match made in heaven. Can’t wait.
