9) Chemical Weapons
Syria had been producing chemical weapons since the mid 80’s and only agreed to have them all destroyed in 2013. The head of the UN body tasked with removing and destroying Syria’s dirty chemical arsenal says the process has been slowed down by security worries. The UN’s Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has a deadline of 31 March for Syria’s most dangerous poison gas and nerve agents to be removed from the country. The stockpile is to be destroyed by 30 June.
You can imagine that getting in and doing a job as sensitive and dangerous as that would take some careful political maneuvering.
