8) Refugee Hell
The UN estimates that 1.5 million people have fled Syria far and wide. Refugees have ended up in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Kurdistan. Refugee camps the world over face the same problems: hunger, poor sanitation, disease and violence. These camps are no different. The winters are harsh in the desert and people have been succumbing to the cold and hunger these last couple of months.
A refugee camp in Damascus received food provisions this week for the first time in months. Their aid had been cut off by the Syrian Army’s strangle hold siege since September 2013. After lengthy talks the aid was let through under the proviso that none would reach the rebel’s mouths. As ever, it’s the innocents that suffer the most in war.
