The Deadpool movie has – somewhat surprisingly, I’ll admit and I’m a huge Deadpool fan – been shaping up as one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and now that it’s been screened for the first time we can get even more stoked on it because everyone seemed to love it.
There was a surprise screening of the movie last night in both New York City and Los Angeles. It was marketed as a ‘fan event’ where you could glimpse some ‘first look footage’, but Fox decided to go one step further and show the whole movie instead. Ballsy.
Ryan Reynolds made it to the New York screening whereas Los Angelese had Stan Lee, T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, and Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick all in attendance. I bet you’re wishing you showed up now if you lived in either of those cities and heard about it.
Everyone who was lucky enough to be there has been tweeting about it and they’re all overwhelmingly positive, which only makes us even more excited for when it drops on February 12th:

This #deadpool fan's happy. Really fun movie. Overall plot's standard, but consistently strong comedy, fan service & action overshadow that.

That’s a lot of positive feedback – I mean these guys are saying it’s their favourite goddamned movie after they’ve just seen it. For me to say something like that it would have to be seriously sick, so let’s hope that these guys have actually seen a few movies before and aren’t overexcited comic book nerds and it’s actually a good movie.
I’ll be really pissed if it isn’t, but the trailer got me pretty excited so I’m quietly confident. Here’s hoping.
