I know it’s hardly breaking news that a man who starred in a hit TV show in 2001 would look drastically different nearly 25 years later, but it’s still shocking to see what the hunk who played Clark Kent AKA Superman in Smallville looks like now.

Tom Welling, 47, was stopped by police and arrested in an Arby’s car park in Yreka, California shortly after midnight last weekend for allegedly driving under the influence. Here’s his mugshot:

Is that even the same person? Apparently so. Again, it’s been a quarter of a century since Smallville first hit our screens, and you’re never going to look like the same person when you’re 47 years old in a mugshot vs 24 years old and being paid to be professionally handsome under Hollywood studio lighting.

It turns out that Welling is actually still involved in TV, having most recently appeared as Vincent Corbo in TV series Professionals, and as Samuel Campbell in The Winchesters. Last year he starred in two films called Mafia Wars and Clear Cut.

There’s not many things more humiliating than being arrested for DUI in an Arby’s car park after midnight, so let’s hope this was a one-off lapse in judgment by the Smallville legend and there’s nothing too dark going on in his life that prompted this behaviour. The good news is that no one was hurt, so let’s hope he recovers from this one and behaves himself from now on.
