A bunch of crazy Russian divers took a frosty dip last year and took these incredible photos from under the winter ice. Here’s the lake under a layer of snow, not very inviting at all:
There’s not a chance in hell that you’d get me underneath the ice of a frozen lake, or indeed any body of water. But I’m glad someone is less of a chicken than me…
And this is what they saw…
They look like alien Christmas trees to my eyes.
The lake is so remote that the divers had to drive for hours, then once the road had run out, charter some horses. When the terrain became too bad for the horses they had to complete the rest of the journey on foot, trudging through knee deep snow for hours.
Yeah, so I’m not planning on any ice diving this season, no matter how cool it looks down there.
