TV presenter Sue Perkins has issued an apology after committing the ultimate mortal sin of our times – misgendering a fellow human being in House of the Dragon actress Emma D’Arcy (repeatedly, no less!).
Sue Perkins was hosting at the premiere of House of The Dragon Season 2 in London when she began speaking to actor Matt Smith (who plays Daemon Targaryen in the show). During their conversation, the presenter referred to Emma D’Arcy as ‘she’, despite Emma being non-binary and using ‘they/them’ pronouns. Oh the humanity!
Not to worry though, because Matt Smith then ‘corrected’ her by using they/them pronouns in reference to Emma – what a hero:

Even still, social media was not happy with the misgendering:
Bit harsh considering it was obviously a genuine and unintentional mistake, especially as Sue Perkins is gay herself. Why are people being so defensive about it?
Of course, Sue Perkins eventually jumped on X to apologise for her misdeeds:
You called a pretty female-presenting individual a feminine pronoun by mistake – don’t worry about it, Sue Perkins! Hopefully the perpetually outraged users of X can move on from it now.
Previously, non-binary Emma D’Arcy had proclaimed “I really like playing women and I’m really good at it.” You don’t say?
