Another day, another fast food giant found to have human poo in its drinks.

This time it’s not one, but three companies that have fell victim to the poop test – McDonald’s, Burger King and KFC were all found to serve iced drinks that were contaminated. Grimy.
The tests were carried out by BBC One’s Watchdog, which looked ten samples from each of the chains for ‘faecal coliform’. These bacteria, which can cause an array of diseases, were found at three Maccy’s joints, six at Burger Kings and seven at KFCs. Four at BK and five at KFC were considered “significant” levels. Significant levels of poo… great.
Tony Lewis, head of policy and education at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, said:
It’s extremely worrying.
When we’re finding the sorts of numbers we’re finding here, you have to look at the people making the ice, handling the ice, which they then transfer into customers’ drinks.
And then you also have to look at hygiene failure with potentially the machines themselves: are they being kept clean?
A spokesperson for each of the companies has made statements like “cleanliness and hygiene are a top priority” and “we have inspected and cleaned the ice machines in all other restaurants across the UK”. So I guess at least they’re doing something now – but it’s kind of lame that it took Watchdog finding literal poop in their drinks to take action. Let’s not let this happen again guys, please?
