For the uninitiated, Johnny Somali is a controversial live-streamer from the US whose whole shtick is basically to be as rude and obnoxious and unlikable as possible, and I guess he figured that South Korea would be a safe place to behave this way as the guy literally makes a living just by being a total pr1ck on stream.
Well, Johnny Somali made the grave error of not only disrespecting the Korean people and their culture on his streams day by day, but also inviting them to ‘swing’ at him when they see him in public. Here’s how that turned out for him and him buddy:

I’m not sure what Johnny Somali expected to happen? Maybe he thought that Koreans were placid, non-violent people, and while this may generally be true, there’s no way they’re going to let this guy take the mick out of them in their own country and make a profit out of it, are they? And so it’s no wonder he’s regularly getting attacked there in public now, especially as he literally invited them to do it. I mean, it’s not like he’s hard to spot out there, is it?
In fact, getting beaten up in public is the last of Johnny Somali’s worries in South Korea. It turns out that when he showed up in the country months ago, the authorities already knew who he was (he caused similar trouble in Japan earlier in the year) and so they sat back and took notes of all the crimes he committed on their soil; drug use, assault, disturbing the peace, creating AI deepfakes of other streamers, spreading North Korean propaganda, and more. According to Dexerto, he’s now trapped in the country with no money or ability to stream, and he’s facing 10 years in prison with his trial set for March 2025.
So yeah, not a good time to be Johnny Somali. Obviously we would never condone anyone getting beaten up, even when they literally ask for it, but it’s not exactly easy to feel sorry the guy either. Good luck at the trial, Johnny!
