The idea of a TwitchCon is already completely alien and weird to me, but it becomes even stranger when there’s some kind of weird conspiracy going around regarding a foam pit that appears to be designed to full on injure people.

TwitchCon took place over in San Diego this week and the Lenovo Legion booth hosted a Face Off style event where streamers tried to knock each other off raised platforms into a foam pit, a bit like the Duel even from ‘Gladiators’ back in the day. One such streamer named Adriana Chechik broke her back in two places and needed to have a metal rod inserted into it following her jump into the foam pit.
How the hell did that happen? Well, you can see footage of her jump below and see what you think yourself:

Ouch. Obviously some of the problem here is the way that she’s landed, but even that doesn’t excuse that it really doesn’t look that good in the first place – all the cubes/blocks don’t look like they’re foam at all but have really sharp edges that it would absolutely cane to fall upon. Something is seriously wrong with that setup.
Another streamer has said that she dislocated her knee and sprained her ankle after just stepping off the podium, whilst many others have complained of difficulty walking and back pain after landing in the pit, so it doesn’t seem like Chechik’s injury was an isolated incident, albeit the most serious. The convention made people sign a waiver before allowed up on the podiums so it’s unsure if those affected will be able to claim any compensation or anything from the festival.
Stay tuned I guess, but what an absolutely shambolic look for the fest. How the hell do you manage to set up a foam pit that ends up breaking someone’s back? Literally never heard of anything like that before in my life. Beyond ridiculous.
