2. There Is A New Type Of Boredom

There’s a new type of boredom going around. Have you tried it yet? It’s called apathetic boredom and all the kids are doing it.

According to new research there are actually five different types of boredom; four that we were already aware of (?), and this newly discovered variety. Researchers from the University of Konstanz in Germany, led by psychologist Thomas Goetz, were shocked to discover that kids have been experimenting with a dangerous new boredom — it was found that amongst the high school students that took part in the study 36% of their boredom experiences were made up of apathetic boredom. The other 64% was presumably made up of Big Bang Theory repeats.

Apathetic boredom is similar to depression in that sufferers feel flat and incapable of emotion. In other words, they’ve just given up hope and feel totally disengaged from the world. It’s the least enjoyable of all the boredoms so if anyone offers you some, just say no.

The other four boredom types are: 1. Indifferent boredom (I am indifferent to everything around me.) 2. Calibrating boredom (I do not know what to do with myself.) 3. Searching boredom (I know what to do with myself. I’d rather be doing something else though.) 4. Reactant boredom (I am angry about being bored.)
