Stormzy has managed to dig a deeper hole for himself after issuing the statement regarding his ‘deleted’ Pro-Palestine Tweets and the McDonald’s collaboration that followed.

According to Stormzy, his Pro-Palestine Tweets were ‘archived’, not deleted, and he did his research on McDonald’s before collaborating with them and came to the conclusion that they don’t support Israel after all? Here’s the statement in full:

Unfortunately for Stormzy, this statement seems to have done little to quell the backlash against him. Here’s some of the reaction:

In fairness to Stormzy, the guy has gone to bat for various communities and charities and causes over the years, so maybe it’s a little bit unfair that people are coming down so hard on him over this McDonald’s thing. In fact I looked into it a little bit and apparently aside from sending free meals to IDF soldiers last year (after which McDonald’s bought back all franchises from Israeli-owned branches to ensure it doesn’t happen again), there’s no other evidence that McDonald’s actually supports what is happening in Gaza. So maybe, just maybe, Stormzy is being unfairly piled on here.

Still, why not follow up that statement with another ‘Free Palestine’ Tweet or perhaps announce that he’s donating all proceeds from the Stormzy meal to a Palestine relief fund? Well, it probably gets a little complicated for him if he chooses to go down that route. Sorry Stormzy, you made your bed with this one…
