A north London Starbucks barista attempted to chat up a 19-year-old customer with a message on her coffee cup, only for it to backfire in his face spectacularly.

The man had scribbled out part of the warning message on the cup he gave to Laura Roberts, leaving behind the text: “Careful you’re extremely hot”. Laura didn’t seem to appreciate it, and neither did her mum Alex who shared the photo online alongside the caption:

Creepy barista writing inappropriate messages on my daughter’s coffee cup. Looks like son-in-law material.

Laura, who is engaged to marry someone else (at 19? Jeez) is a regular at this Starbucks branch, and is keeping shtum on the location so as not to embarrass the guy.

Is what this guy did really even that bad though? I thought it was quite creative manipulating the text on the cup into giving her a compliment, although chances are he pulls that move on every attractive girl that he serves. The point is – it’s not a bad move, and it could’ve worked. We all may as well stop complimenting each other altogether if trying to flatter someone brings the world into meltdown.

P.S. Imagine the opposite scenario where a female barista leaves that message on a man’s cup. It would absolutely make my day. I’d feel like Leo. I’d be walking on the clouds. Might even put it on the Internet as well just to show off. It’s surely less offensive than getting satanic symbols in your coffee anyway.
