So earlier this week Neil Young demanded that Spotify remove his music over ‘false information about vaccines’ on the Joe Rogan Experience. Young wrote a letter to his management and label saying “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”
I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them. Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.
I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.
He gave Spotify a choice – they can have the most popular person in media today with 200 MILLION listeners a month, or the 76-year-old rock legend with 6 million listeners a month who their main demographic doesn’t even know exists? Well according to Forbes, Spotify chose the former and will be removing Neil Young’s music from their platform.
A Spotify spokesperson said:
We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.
Joe Rogan has made quite the stir at Spotify HQ since he signed that massive $100 million deal. He brought in 4.5% of all their podcast listeners just in his first month. Even still, some people say he shouldn’t be able to host vaccine disinformation. Others say he should be able to host all the information (and disinformation) he wants and let the people find out for themselves what’s true or not. After all, aren’t we all just stumbling through life trying to figure it all out? Either way, fair play to Neil Young for following through on his threat. More balls than the Spotify staffers who threatened to quit and didn’t. Then again, they don’t have Neil Young money. What a legend.
