A soldier is accused of murdering a hearing-impaired woman after mistaking her hearing aid for espionage equipment, reports 78.ru.

Nikolay Tikhonov met the victim at a nightclub in St. Petersburg on Sunday, hours before beating her to death at his home.

Due to her hearing issue, the pair were reportedly communicating using notes the whole night. Apparently the cadet was not aware that this was due to the lady being hearing-impaired, but rather, thought she was playing some kind of flirty game.

After dancing and drinking all night, Nikolay invited the lady back to his place.

There, the woman noticed his military uniform and began asking him questions about his service.

At that point, Nikolay grew paranoid and soon noticed the woman’s hearing aid, which he mistook for spy equipment that he believed was recording their conversation.

Recalling that she had asked him about his military service, the drunk Russian soldier concluded that she was a ‘spy for Ukraine’ and began attacking her.

After beating the woman to death, Nikolay called the emergency services, explaining that he had invited a woman to his home, but she had ‘turned out to be a Ukrainian’.

When police and emergency services turned up at him home, they found Nikolay ‘drunk’, and the woman without a pulse, having died at the apartment from ‘catastrophic injuries.’

Nikolay Tikhonov was arrested and has been remanded in custody until November 21, so at least he’s not getting away with it. I mean, even if she had been a spy, why immediately kill the girl? Surely someone would have liked to interrogate her about her plans and associates first. Or use her to feed the enemy false information? Makes you wonder where this guy was just a garden variety abuser and murderer of women who made up a stupid story about the hearing aid to try to explain a drunken night of beating someone to death.

The victim’s stepfather told local media:

‘She did not work. Lately she worked in sewing factories. And then they laid her off.

‘But there are some rumors that she is supposedly a prostitute. Of course, she is not a prostitute. She just wanted to find a man and hung around these bars.’

Classic Russian eulogy right there. RIP to this poor girl and let’s hope the drunken moron who killed her gets the punishment he deserves. Although it’s probably more likely he’ll do a few years before being able to switch out his jail time to go fight in Ukraine. They need all the soldiers they can get, after all.
