Yeah you heard right, two massive headliners are rocking up on our shores this summer for the third Manchester International Festival from June 30th – July 17th.
The absolute G that is Snoop D-O-DOUBLE-G will be hitting his favourite city to perform at the festival, as well as making his long-awaited debut on the Corrie cobbles and filming his new video with Dierdre Barlow shaking her ass as the love interest. Snoop will be playing his iconic debut hip-hop album Doggy Style in its entirity with help from a few collaborators – an album which defines a genre and a decade.
Catch him when he plays 15 July 2011 02 Apollo.
And the Icelandic pop- midget/ maniac Bjork (anyone recall the time she started beating the shit out of the Japanese reporter at the airport?) will also be performing the world-premier of her Biophelia album, as she plays two shows a week for three weeks at MOSI’s Campfield Market. The album is her most ambitious yet: ‘A multimedia project encompassing music, apps, internet, installations and live shows, Biophilia celebrates how sound works in nature, exploring the infinite expanse of the universe, from planetary systems to atomic structure’ (thanks Manchester Confidential). Her unique and eclectic style is what made her huge in the first place, so this is sure to be one show to remember.
Other acts confirmed (that I’m far less excited to see) are comedienne Victoria Wood, north west funny man Johnny Vegas, Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, Irish songstress Sinead O’Connor and world musicians Amadou & Mariam.
