Well this is fucked up, and definitely something you’ll file under ‘messed up internet shit.’
Two 12 year old girls from Waukesha, Wisconsin (since when does anything ever happen in Wisconsin?) named Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier are said to have stabbed one of their ‘friends’ 19 times in order to please The Slender Man, which is a weird internet meme that has existed since around 2009. The girls claimed that they were trying to become ‘proxies’ of The Slender Man, and carried out the attack in order to please him. Following the slaying they planned to run away to The Slender Man’s forest mansion.
The girls staged the attack in one of the most organised and downright creepy ways possible, more befitting of professional killers than pre pubescent pups – they invited their friend over for a sleepover then lured her into the woods the day after for a game of hide and seek, only when they found her they brutally stabbed her 19 times. They only missed a major artery near her heart by a millimetre, and that’s the only reason the girl was able to survive. They had allegedly been planning the attack for months.
She managed to crawl out of the woods to a nearby road, where a passing cyclist spotted her and called an ambulance and the police. The girl is now said to be in stable condition, whilst the two perpetrators are in the dock and will be charged with first degree attempted homicide. They will both be tried as adults due to the horrific nature of the crime, and face 64 years in prison each if found guilty. Their bail is currently set at $500,000 each. Basically, they’re going down and pretty much deserve to.

The Slender Man is an internet meme that first came into life in 2009 on the Something Awful website. It was originally used as a way to insert creepy looking men into the backgrounds of posters/photographs but soon developed its own mythology, with The Slender Man said to be a faceless man with tentacle arms that kidnapped children.
Apparently in order to join The Slender Man’s realm, it’s necessary for a user to kill someone, which is exactly why they carried out this attack. They had their backpacks packed and were found walking near an interstate highway on their way to join him following the attack. One of the girls said that she saw The Slender Man in her dreams and that he watches her constantly, can read her mind and can teleport to wherever she is.
Sounds like a whack job sure, it’s just a tragedy that she was able to stab someone almost to death before anyone picked up on it. No doubt people will blame The Slender Man meme and the internet for this, but as is the case any time something gets blamed on the internet, it’s just another easy source of blame where the true blame lies with the person that actually committed the crimes, and not whatever they were looking at online. These ideas have been echoed by the founder of Creepy Pasta, where the girls originally read the story of The Slender Man.
