‘Elf’ has to be one of the best more recent Christmas movies – Buddy was the happiest elf there ever was right?

Well, what if this entire film actually had a disturbing and sinister backstory and Buddy was just fooling us all along? This fan theory claims exactly that, stating that Buddy was actually a dark force amongst Santa’s helpers and wasn’t as innocent as he made himself out to be.

Reddit user Batfan5 says a number of moments in the movie prove this including the scene in which Buddy walks in on Jovie singing naked in the shower. Batfan5 says:

Buddy, the sicko as he is, was actually trying to peep on Zooey while she was in the shower, and played his sick fetish off as innocence and just wanted to sing a Christmas song.

And while he tries to claim he doesn’t know that people get naked in showers, here he is taking an unclothed shower earlier in the movie:

He also adds that Buddy uses his innocence to verbally abuse a man with a disability at work:

So what do you reckon – is there any truth to this guy’s theory? Obviously not, but it’s definitely an interesting thought. If anything, it’s made me really want to go and watch ‘Elf’ now. ‘Tis the season.
