Señor Chirpse’s Sick Chirpse XI
FORMATION
You got a couple of choices here but it all depends on where you see the most important part of your team.
5-3-2 and 4-5-1 are off the table early doors as you will never scramble the necessary points together playing that shit. This isn’t little boy’s day out after all. Then it comes down to whether or not you think 4 defenders is the one. If you are gonna fill up on 3 good defenders and have 1 budget one then 4-3-3 or even 4-4-fucking-2 is the one for you – however – when you have people like Bale and Mata available as midfielders why not pack the midfield with a 5? Personally, I always go with the three up top but I only came third last year so what the fuck would I know? Whatever you choose just remember to not skimp on your defenders as leagues are won and lost by those men at the back. After all, if you can pick a diamond in the rough up top, like Bentekkers or Lamberto last year, then you can splash out on any defender you want and not lose out on the goals.
THE GOALIE
Petr Cech – 3.9 mil – Chelsea
Not an easy pick this year. Hart is still the top priced keeper around these parts, Mignolet is featuring quite heavily in a lot of people’s teams after the Belgian’s big 9 million transfer but coming into the new season it is hard to look anywhere but Petr Cech. The Chelsea big man is back with avengeance and has the Special One’s backing again – the manager who does not lose at home and who helped Cech beat the clean sheet record in the top flight. Expect nothing but clean sheets from this man in 2013/2014. Worth the money.
THE DEFENCE
Leighton Baines was the highest scoring and most prolific defender in the fantasy league last year managing a total of 172 points for the Toffees, however, he is now the 4th highest valued defender and with a new manager he will be a big gamble when you don’t know exactly what Martinez’s plans are. The safer bets to start your season are as follows:
Kieran Gibbs – 3.5 mil – Arsenal
Arsenal left back Gibbs who managed to rack up 106 points last season despite an injury spell that stretched a over quite a period of time. Arsenal are looking steadier by the day and he will be a key part of that back line, always charging forward, and with their increased quality this year he will be up there with the big points scorers.
Martin Olsson – 3.0 mil – Norwich
This Swedish left back can also be seen to operate further up the left flank and will be a strong addition to the Norwich squad. Last year seen the Norwich defence score highly especially Bassong, and with Olsson coming in you can expect much of the same. Strong, confident and equipped with a great left foot he could be the one to watch down at the Canaries.
Razvan Rat – 2.8 mil – West Ham
This 89 time capped Romanian will have a lot to say down at Upton Park and could be a real key inclusion in Allardyce’s setup this year. With a lot of European experience behind him after plying his trade at Shakhtar Donetsk you will see him representing the left side of the Hammers very well. A good passer with a key eye for the long ball could see some great link up play – basically – if you’re looking for a good defender with assist potential for sub 3 million look no further. Also, West Ham have got some terrible teams in the first few games so you can always test the waters and get him out after the first 4 games.
THE MID
Gareth Bale – 6.0 mil – Spurs
Hopefully we’re wrong. Hopefully he has swanned off to Madrid for some stupid fee of 88 million. Hopefully he gets half way through his season as a Galatico and remembers that he is injury prone. Hopefully he gets a case of the Johnny Woodgate’s and scores an own goal before getting sent off on his debut then dies a death. More likely though is that you will see him come alive again. You will see an unstoppable force of midfield nature. With Mata missing the first few games of the season due to Confederations Cup involvement you have got to start with this guy or be prepared to be left behind by everyone else.
Jesús Navas – 4.4 mil – Man City
Just watch him run at a player and tell me there are many other players doing what he can do. Navas is quick, fluent and decisive every time he gets on the ball and with Pellegrini pulling his strings this just might be one of the stand out debut seasons that we’ve seen from a Premiership newcomer. Want any more info just read a report from any of Man City’s pre season tour and try and find a sentence without him mentioned. A hard pick nonetheless as Silva looks special again after a season of doing little, Yaya is apparently gonna push on more this year with 30 million Fernandinho sitting in the middle of the park but nonetheless Navas is worth the gamble.
Phillipe Coutinho – 4.2 mil – Liverpool

’nuff said.
Matthew Jarvis – 3.5 mil – West Ham
At 3.5 million you might feel that he is a little steep in price considering that he only emassed a total of 85 points last year. However, with a fully fit Andy Carroll back in action and a couple of new additions Jarvis will continue taking charge of free kick/corners/crosses and will generate more assists than you’ve had hot dinners. Not many people will have him and you might just get the jump you need – especially with those shocking teams that the Hammers have in their first few games.
Eden Hazard – 5.4 mil – Chelsea
The 22 year-old Belgian is in crazy form this pre-season. He is tearing teams apart for fun and looks fitter than ever. Cast your minds back to the start of last season and remember just what he was doing to teams when he first joined the Premiership – expect the same at the start of this season. Mourinho will turn him into one of the best players in the world and will utilise everything about him that makes him the exceptional talent that he is.
He is the answer to the question we all ask ourselves – which Chelsea midfielder do I put in as they are all sickos. Despite spending time on the bench due to injury and suspension for kicking children he still managed a total of 175 points last year placing him pretty high in amongst the best Prem midfielders.
STRIKERS
Edin Dzeko – 5.3 mil – Man City
A big gamble, and one that may just pay off. He has been starting and securing his place under Pellegrini throughout this preseason and has looked fantastic – coming together mostly with his brace in City’s 5-1 thrashing of AC Milan. He is at the gutter end of the top class strikers to say the least and will afford you the option of a much better partner up top with him. He can head it, has two great feet and is a real threat – but will he play? We are saying – take a chance on the big Bosnian.
RVP – 8 mil – Man Utd
How can you possibly make a fantasy football team and not include him? After scoring 255 points last year you have to say that no one was anywhere near him except for maybe Suarez who is most likely on his way. The Premiership’s top goal scorer and the driving force behind Man United, and if you have a brain, the driving force behind your team in the 2013/2014 Sick Chirpse Fantasy League. He takes pens, corners, free kick, he scores goals, he assists, he hardly gets booked – he is the one that you want.
