A shop worker has been attacked with a knuckleduster after politely reminding a customer that he needs to wear a face mask in order to enter his shop.

Ian Robson, 48, was dragged over the counter and punched in the head and face minutes after speaking with the customer at the Nisa shop in Gateshead.

The customer did heed his advice at least (well, kinda), having returned to the shop with a scarf wrapped round his face as he exacted revenge:

Ian told the Metro:

I had four customers come in and none of them had masks on so I mentioned to them that they had to wear masks.

Three of them turned round and said that was fine, but one of them said: “Well I won’t wear a mask ever”.

On the customer returning to attack him:

I was serving a customer and he just ran into the store, tried to pull me over the counter and punched me twice in the head.

He had a knuckle-duster on. All I can remember is that it was silver and it hurt. He hit me twice, once on the head and once on the face.

Ian has already returned to work since the incident last month but unfortunately police are yet to identify the suspect. He is described as Asian, in his 20s or 30s, and of slim build. He was wearing a grey and black tracksuit, and had a white patterned scarf over his face. If you know who it is, then you know what to do.

It does go to show how many lunatics there are on both sides of the mask debate, although I’m sure this chavvy idiot has a lot more serious issues going on his life than being asked to wear a mask, if this is his reaction to being asked to wear one.

Also this weekend – a man kicked a 16-year-old girl in the face because she wasn’t wearing a mask on the bus in Birmingham. The whole world’s gone mad, I tell you.
