Thought the Covid lockdowns were over? Looks like we’re right back to where we started. Or at least China is…
Behold… the abandoned streets of the most populace city on Earth, Shanghai, in the strictest pandemic lockdown the world has ever seen. Normally these streets are shoulder-to-shoulder crowded. Eeerie. pic.twitter.com/HGdvK6NLOD

Ghost town — Shanghai in an eerie quiet lockdown. With 26 million official residents*, Shanghai is one of the most populated cities on Earth. It looks like a movie—but it’s real.
📌You can also spot the isolation centers at the 40 sec mark.

Absolutely mad. The whole world finally seems ready to move on from Covid as the news cycle moved from mandates and restrictions to the war in Ukraine, but over in China it’s like they’ve teleported back to the start of 2020. Imposing the strictest lockdowns ever and not allowing people to leave their homes. Here’s more of what’s being shared on social media:

Shanghai is in COVID lock down. This dude got arrested for not wearing a mask and unauthorized grocery shopping. This is the most civilized city in China, if it were in some other cities he would get a beating already. pic.twitter.com/emQRoI08Ul

In the suburbs of Shanghai, volunteers are bagging free vegetables. These vegetables are provided to the locked-in residents free of charge. But It is not easy to ensure the logistics of a super city with 20 million people.🙏🙏🙏 pic.twitter.com/6XmMpJN2Y8

Indeed, some groups of people in Shanghai have had enough and are taking to the streets to protest…

Can’t blame them really. Can you imagine if the UK government turned around and told us we were being put under the strictest lockdown yet after the f*ckery of the last two years? Pretty sure many of us wouldn’t be so accepting of it either. China’s zero-COVID policy is simply insane and they’ll end up on lockdown forever if they’re really waiting for the virus to go away completely. Let’s hope they wiser up ASAP because the people of China have suffered too much for too long already.
