If you believe celebrity gossip – and I always like to when the rumours are more interesting than the truth – Tom Cruise is smitten with Shakira after the two hung out together at the Miami Grand Prix last Sunday, and was said to be ‘extremely interested’ in pursuing a relationship with her. Apparently, he even sent her flowers the next day.

Here they are getting along great (or at least, existing in each other’s vicinity) at the race:

Well sadly for Tom, Shakira finds the rumours that Tom fancies her ‘hilarious’ despite having a ‘fun’ time with him when they met at the Grand Prix in Miami, but she has no plans to take things further.

A source told US Weekly:

‘Tom was really nice and she enjoyed his company, but she isn’t focused on dating him or anybody else at the moment. She has a lot on her plate and is focused on her kids and career for now.’

What a blow that is for Tom Cruise. You would think that after the break-up of her 11-year marriage to Gerard Pique, Shakira would well and truly be on the rebound, and what better rebound that alpha-est of alpha males and one of the greatest and most famous movie stars on the planet?

You would think Shakira would be on her knees for someone like Tom Cruise, but apparently not. She had the opportunity, and she’s willingly blown it. Couldn’t she at least have let him take her on a skydiving date off a skyscraper in Dubai or something?

Let’s hope the next woman Tom Cruise pursues has the good sense to give him a chance. Although I think we can rule out Thandie Newton.
