A serial killer who claimed to have sold his victims’ remains in barbecue sandwiches has died in prison.

Jo ‘The Cannibal’ Metheny was arrested back in the 90s for killing two women in Baltimore – Cathy Magaziner and Kimberly Spicer – although he confessed to murdering more. He was also charged with the murder of two homeless men under a bridge, who he was believed to have butchered with an axe, but charges were later dropped due to a lack of evidence.
The morbidly obese killer had begged for and received a death sentence back in 1998 for the murders of the two women, but this was reduced to a life on appeal. Now it looks like Metheny has (kind of) paid for his crimes, as he recently died at the relatively young age of 62 – he was found unresponsive by a prison guard in his own cell at the Western Correctional Institution in Maryland. Many people will probably feel that this is an unjust retribution for the pain and suffering he caused in his lifetime.

Back in 1998, during his confessions Metheny said that he was “a very sick person” and that he had cut up the bodies of Magaziner and Spicer and sold them as “special meat” at a roadside barbecue stand. Grim. He said:
I had real roast beef and pork sandwiches and why not they were very good. The human body tastes was very similar to pork. If you mix it together no one can tell the difference.
So the next time you’re riding down the road and you happen to see an open pit beef stand that you’ve never seen before, make sure you think about this story before you take a bite of that sandwich.
Sometimes you never know who you may be eating. Ha! Ha!
Police still don’t know whether Metheny was telling the truth or not, but there’s no denying that he was a sick and twisted murderer who showed no remorse for his crimes. When he was sentenced he said:
The words ‘I’m sorry’ will never come out, for they would be a lie.

Metheny added that he killed because he “enjoyed it.” As said, whether he really did serve his victims up as BBQ sandwiches is yet to be seen, but there’s no denying that this guy was driven by evil and sadistic tendencies and it’s a good thing that he was kept locked up right until the end of his life.
