The internet has become an absolute wasteland of hateration and negativity, especially in recent years. We stare at our screens all day consuming bad news and gossip and then wonder why we feel so down all the time. We have anonymous idiots insulting each other back and forth on social media and just generally spreading negative vibes around the world. Well Selana Gomez appears to have come up with a genius solution = stop going on the internet! In fact, she figured it out 4 whole years ago. Or so she says…
Selena told the HuffPost,that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder back in April 2020, and that it was “really freeing to have the information.” And while learning more about her diagnosis helped improve the singer’s emotional well-being, it’s staying offline that really made the difference:
“I haven’t been on the internet in 4 1/2 years. It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal.”
Hmm. I’m not sure I believe her to be honest. Don’t get me wrong – it’s super impressive if true, but who the hell has the discipline and self-control to stay off the internet in 2022? Is Selena Gomez really saying she’s seen nothing at all on the internet for 4 whole years? Well then who the hell is posting these images of her on Instagram?
I guess it’s possible she has a social media team taking care of that for her. Or maybe she signs in quickly, posts a quick selfie, and then signs out again? No scrolling whatsoever? No periodically logging back in to check out her Likes? As I say – fair play to Selena Gomez if she has genuinely managed to resist going on internet all these years. For all the entertainment and convenience it’s brought into our lives, we’re probably better off spending all that time hiking, reading, walking the dog, or just hanging out in nature. Seems Gomez is ahead of the game on that one.
Gomez also gets paid half a million for every sponsored Instagram post she makes, so she can’t be hating on the internet too much.
