A scientist named Dr Nicolas Baumard of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris has predicted that religion might soon die out in the modern world. About fucking time, I’m sure most of you would agree.

Here’s what he had to say on the subject:
As more and more people become affluent and adopt a slow strategy, the need to morally condemn fast strategies decreases, and with it the benefit of holding religious beliefs that justify doing so.
If this is true, and our environment continues to improve, then like the Greco-Roman religions before them, Christianity and other moralising religions could eventually vanish.
Baumard said that in a kind of long winded fashion so I’ll paraphrase it for you here and explain what he’s trying to say. I think he means the fact that most religions originated in times and countries where the general population could just about afford to eat and survive meant that religions were needed to encourage the population to live a ‘slow’ lifestyle and plan for the future.

These days, the majority of people have access to money and are determined to live fast and have the best time possible rather than staying safe and planning for the future. This usually requires some degree of moral flexibility which doesn’t correlate itself with religion and as such, the need for it is slowly declining. At least that’s what I think he’s saying.
Who cares what the reasons are anyway. I think most people know that almost all wars ever have started over religion and ISIS exist because of it and they are killing people because of it right now. The sooner it disappears from modern society, the better, if you ask me.
