Good news (?) for the Muslim community over in Minneapolis and San Jose, California in the States — the Satanic Temple has your back.

The Minneapolis and San Jose chapters of the organisation, which describes itself as a group that “facilitates the communication and mobilization of politically aware Satanists, secularists and advocates for individual liberty,” posted a message to their website and social pages earlier offering to protect local Muslims who might be experiencing backlash after last Friday’s terror attacks:

The Satanic Temple assures it’s not a publicity stunt:

Our offer comes from a place of genuine compassion for our fellow human beings. It’s not to ride the tide of sentiment or capitalize on people for further name recognition.

So far, no Muslims have taken up their offer. But that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it though, as one commenter wrote:

I don’t live in Minneapolis, but as an American Muslim, I’m glad to see you guys take up this effort and help out a marginalized group. Thank you for doing this and building bridges between communities.

A lovely gesture from the Satanic temple I guess? Though I’m not too surprised that no Muslims have reached out to them yet. It’s a bit like getting bullied at school and then the emo kids say you can come sit with them and try take you under their wing.

Unfortunately many Americans (and people the world over, but especially Americans) are all too willing to accept the notion that all Muslims are in some way responsible for the tragedies of last week and that’s something that peaceful Muslims have to deal with for a while. I don’t really see how aligning yourself with the Satanic Temple will make life easier.

So yeah, word of advice for any Muslims looking to take up the Satanic Temple’s offer — don’t.
