You would think that the guy who played Ali G, Borat and Brüno so brilliantly wouldn’t take himself so seriously, but apparently Sacha Baron Cohen was so offended by Rebel Wilson calling him an ‘@rsehole’ in her new memoir that he threatened legal action and tried to have press around the release of the book blocked.
Rebel Wilson is set to release memoir Rebel Rising, which looks into her childhood, career and personal life, on April 4, and claims lawyers for Sacha Baron Cohen have been in touch with her after taking issue with one of the chapters in the book related to their client.
Well, that seems to have completely backfired because Rebel Wilson has now named the person ahead of the book’s release, stating she will not be ‘bullied or silenced’…
Rebel added: “He’s hired a crisis PR manager and lawyers. He’s trying to stop press coming out about my new book. But the book WILL come out and you will all know the truth.”
Rebel Wilson previously shared that when she first came to Hollywood, colleagues told her they have a ‘no a******s policy … I don’t work with a******s.’
“I was like, “Yeah, that sounds sensible, logical.”‘
She said she had ‘worked with a massive a****e, and now I definitely have a no a*****e policy chapter on said a*****e. It is chapter 23. That guy was a massive a*****e.’
The pair worked together in 2016 film Grimsby, which featured Sacha Baron Cohen as a football hooligan and Rebel Wilson as his partner and mum to his 11 children. They had good chemistry in that film, so surprising to find that they didn’t actually get on behind-the-scenes. I guess that’s why it’s called ‘acting’ though.
It will be interesting to see what kind of specifics Rebel Wilson gets into when her memoir comes out. It has to be something pretty bad for Sacha Baron Cohen to be so worried about it that he’s made his lawyers reach out and threaten her. Surely there has to be more to it than just some vague anecdotes and references to him as an @rsehole. Could Sacha Baron Cohen be on the verge of getting #MeToo’d? Or is he just prized pr1ck?
