I’m sure that most of us saw clips of or at least knew about the new Sacha Baron Cohen show ‘Who Is America?’ where he took the piss out of gullible Americans in the public eye, and I’m fairly sure that none of us thought he was going to get away with it without any repercussions.

I doubt that anyone thought that he was going to get stung this bad for it though, as it was today announced that former Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore would be suing Cohen to the tune of $74 million. You probably remember Moore from the episode where Cohen accused him of being a paedophile with a paedophile detector.

The lawsuit reads like this:

‘This false and fraudulent portrayal and mocking of Judge Moore as a sex offender, on national and international television, which was widely broadcast in this district on national television and worldwide, has severely harmed Judge Moore’s reputation and caused him, Mrs Moore, and his entire family severe emotional distress, as well as caused and will cause plaintiffs financial damage.’

Yeah I mean he has got a point there hasn’t he but $74 million is still a hell of a lot of money to try and get off someone, even if the production company behind the show Showtime are named as defendants too. No idea how this one is going to pan out but it’ll be fascinating to watch it unfold if it ever goes to trial.

Crucially, Moore is claiming that even though he signed a release before going on the show that it’s now void because he signed it under false pretences. That’s a whole bag of worms for both of their respective legal teams to dig through I imagine so we could be in for a long hard slog with this one –  I imagine they’ll try to settle before it ever goes to trial though.

For more of the same, check out the paedophile detector skit here. It is pretty good to be fair.
