Robert De Niro has confirmed that he has recently become a dad of seven at the age of 79, meaning he now has a child that’s younger than his grandchildren.

De Niro shared the news in an interview while promoting his aptly-named new film, About My Father. At one point, the interviewer for ET Canada noted that De Niro had six kids, to which the Hollywood legend replied: ‘Seven actually. I just had a baby.’

So the Hollywood legend now has seven kids from four baby mamas; his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, are parents to daughter Drena, 51, and son Raphael, 46. In 1995, he welcomed twin sons Julian and Aaron, 27, with his model Toukie Smith. He also shares son Elliot, 24, and daughter Helen Grace, 11, with ex-wife, Grace Hightower. He’s been reproducing for half a century! His kids have a wider age range than most people’s entire families!

Well anyway, congrats to De Niro on the new arrival. You can’t help but feel a bit sorry for the kid who you imagine might grow up never really knowing his father, who turns 80 in August. Not sure how ‘normal’ or well adjusted you can expect any kid to be when being brought up by a mega rich, mega famous dad in his eighties. Although I guess being a rich kid with an ancient dad who dies naturally is preferable to being a poor kid in the foster system who doesn’t even know their parents. Just seems unfair to the kid on some level, but I’m sure they’ll be OK.

In the same interview, De Niro shared the following wisdom about raising kids:

‘I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice.

And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.’

Who knows, maybe there’s time for baby #8 before it’s all said and done. Not like he’s getting the old knot tied at this point, is it?
