Really sad news to kick off the week as it’s been reported that Jason David Frank AKA The Green Power Ranger has passed away aged 49. The news initially broke via his close friend, Mike Bronzoulis, and later confirmed by representatives, TMZ reports.
Back when Frank first debuted on the Power Rangers TV series, he was the coolest guy on television. I remember as soon as he turned up, I no longer wanted to be the Red Ranger. That’s how awesome he was in his role:
Frank started out as the Green Ranger in Season 1, first as an enemy of the Power Rangers – only to then transform into the White Ranger and become the new leader of the group. Frank starred as one of the leads for 3 seasons, totaling 123 episodes.
He was also a legit MMA fighter, 3-0 as an amateur and 1-0 professionally, so he literally never lost a fight. He also had a ‘Jesus Didn’t Tap’ tattoo, which is about as badass as it gets really:
Sadly it does appear that Frank took his own life, which comes months after his wife filed for divorce. I’m not sure he had many acting opportunities coming in at this stage of his life either, which can’t have made things easy. In fact I think the Power Rangers was his only real gig, but what a legacy he managed to leave behind in the process. Coming in after the original Power Rangers and managing to effortlessly be the coolest one is some feat.
Frank is survived by his 4 children – his rep Justine tells TMZ:
Please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being. He loved his family, friends and fans very much. He will truly be missed.
