Ricky Gervais has been one of the more outspoken celebrities when it comes to the more problematic aspects of gender identity, so there was never any doubt he was going to bring the jokes for ‘SuperNature’ – his new special on Netflix. This clip in particular seems to be causing quite a stir…

Naturally, there’s plenty of shrieking happening on social media right now as people debate whether jokes like this are fair game for comics. Isn’t the best comedy about highlighting (and laughing at) the absurd, the dark, the silly and harsh realities of the world? I don’t think there’s many groups Gervais hasn’t made fun of throughout his career, so shouldn’t we allow him to be an equal opportunity p*ss-taker?
It’s also interesting that in that clip, he’s just relaying back the same arguments you hear all the time from TRAs. Fair play to Netflix for not caving to recent pressure and allowing comics like Gervais to do their thing.
