2019 will always be remembered as the year that ‘Game Of Thrones’ ended its phenomenal run and left the majority of viewers thoroughly disappointed with its nonsensical final act, but maybe it will also be remembered as the year ‘The Witcher’ announced itself and truly usurped GOT as the number one fantasy TV show of all time.

I would have said you were made if you were positing that to me at the start of the year, but the negative reaction towards GOT and these positive reviews of ‘The Witcher’ before its premiere over Christmas on Netflix leads me to believe that this might be the case. Here are a few of the tweets that have been sent out about it already:

Oh I will say this. The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game of Thrones fight scenes look like two drunks fighting outside a bar.

Blown away by the action and visuals so far for Netflix’s The Witcher. Seeing Geralt of Rivia’s unique sword style brought to life onscreen is amazing. pic.twitter.com/5hGuiIaJ9B

Watching the screeners for @witchernetflix. I’ll admit, as a huge fan of the books, I was a little worried, but @LHissrich has done a masterful job telling this story. It also helps that the cast is amazing! And Henry Cavill, just … wow. #TheWitcher pic.twitter.com/xdFnYtRN4j

I mean those are pretty bold claims because we all know even if it didn’t end that satisfactorily that the battle scenes on GOT were some of the best that have ever been committed to film. That means that ‘The Witcher’ really is going to be absolutely mindblowing if these professional television reviewers are telling us that it makes GOT look like toddler shit or whatever.
Colour me excited to burn through this back at my parents’ house over the Xmas period. Things are looking up.
For more of the same, check out the first trailer for The Witcher right here. Does look pretty big time to be fair.
