A dad and daughter who worked together as police officers sent “highly derogative and offensive’ Whatsapps to each other while in active duty for West Midlands police.

PCs Craig and Annie Napier mocked black people, Muslims, gay people, someone with Down Syndrome, rape victims, and more, in chats between April 2020 and May 2021.

Discussing one crime scene in October 2020, Annie Napier asked ‘Is she mangled?’, before her dad typed back, ‘She’s face down so can’t see a lot just blood round her head.’

After Annie Napier followed up by asking, ‘Oooo! You think its murder?’, Craig Napier replied: ‘Who knows and dares to dream, I’ll let you know when I know babe.’

Police officer father and daughter exchanged vile WhatsApp messages mocking crime victims, hearing told The ex-officers - both called PC Napier - sent 'highly derogatory and offensive' messages to each other while working for West Midlands Police. They used a derogatory term - which described someone with Down's syndrome - in multiple messages, while the dad described black mental health staff as 'fat w***'. They would have been sacked at they not already resigned, disciplinary hearing told.

In another message im January 2021, Craig Napier messaged his daughter saying he was ‘on a crappy p***ed up s**g rape scene’.

When he was at the scene of a child’s death in August 2020, Annie Napier sent him a text saying: ‘Yeah I heard about it not good, is it trampy?’

During a protest in June 2020, Craig Napier said he was ‘stuck on the Walsgrave Road behind around 50 now’, adding: ‘The f***ing little s**gs keep lying down on the road but the gaffer won’t let us get out and baton them.’

His daughter suggested: ‘Drive over them xxx.’

Both Napiers were found guilty of gross misconduct, and would have been sacked had they not resigned earlier this year. The panel’s report said their messages were ‘highly offensive, hostile and discriminatory on the grounds of disability, race, nationality, gender and sexual orientation’.

The question is – how were these private exchanges between a dad and daughter uncovered in the first place? Well, one or both of their phones were analysed due to a seperate unrelated investigation, and I guess someone must have seen the WhatsApps between them.

Vile discussions for sure, but should private conversations between a father and daughter (no matter how abhorrent the content) really be grounds for dismissal? Well, I’m no expert, but I suppose we don’t need this sort of perversion in our police ranks. I mean, a father who calls his daughter ‘babe’? Bit weird really.

Pretty scary to think how many police officers or even hospital staff talk to each other in this way privately. It’s probably a good reflection of how some police or hospital staff feel on a regular basis having to put up with so many problematic or frustrating people every day, but there’s no way they should be commenting on certain victims in the way they do. Even if you’re a father and daughter.

If you must talk like that though, you better make sure you don’t get caught. And especially if you work for the police. Career change incoming for both, I think.
