Following that they gave up and tugged it over to a sandbar and waited for another three hours – without any food and swatting mosquitoes the whole time – for some other hunters to turn up and help them get it on the boat. The things they do for the love of the hunt eh? It was all worth it though because when it weighed in at 727 pounds and measured 13 feet and 4.5 inches. So basically it was a bit of a fatass as it was slightly less long than Tramell’s but four pounds heavier. Unlucky guy.

Despite these alligators being absolutely gigantic, they’re almost 100 pounds off the alligator record for Texas, which belongs to an 18 year old kid called Braxton Bielski (amazing name). This also happened this year in March and it weighed 800 pounds and was 14 foot and 3 inches long. It was so big it needed a crane to move it around, as you can see in the pictures below.
Alligator season finishes in a week so there probably won’t be any more updates about huge alligators being caught as it seems unlikely they’ll break the record again, so we’ll see you back here next year for some more photographs.
