When Rebel Wilson revealed that Sacha Baron Cohen had got his lawyers in touch with her over a chapter she’d written about him in upcoming memoir ‘Rebel Rising’, we joked that maybe the former Ali G/Borat/Bruno legend was about to be #MeToo’d. Turns out, that’s potentially what is happening after further details about their relationship on the set of 2016’s ‘Grimsby’ were dug up.
Rebel Wilson sent out the following Tweets in 2017, not naming Sacha Baron Cohen, but it will soon become clear that she’s referring to him:
Then, during an interview on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Rebel Wilson said this about Sacha Baron Cohen:
“Sacha is so outrageous. Every single day he’s like, ‘Rebel, can you just go naked in this scene?’ And I’m like, ‘No!’ Sacha and I have the same agent in America and I’m like, ‘Sacha, I’m going to call our agent Sharon and tell her how much you are harassing me.”
“Every day he’s like, ‘Just go naked, it will be funny. Remember in Borat when I did that naked scene? It was hilarious.’ On the last day I thought I’d obviously won the argument and he got a body double to do the naked scene.”
She also claimed Cohen asked her to “stick [her] finger up his butt” for the final scene, although this was not included in the script:
“He’s like, ‘Look, I’ll just pull down my pants, you just stick your finger up my butt, it’ll be a really funny bit.'”
Well, those comments certainly line up with her Tweets. As for ‘sexual harassment’? I guess repeatedly asking your co-star to get naked and then hassling them to stick their finger in your bum probably falls under that umbrella, especially if they keep refusing and you’ve got your buddies laughing and filming the whole thing. Good to see the studio took her complaint seriously, either way.
Makes you wonder what other stories about Sacha Baron Cohen are out there waiting to come out. Surely this can’t have been the only time he behaved inappropriately on set? If those stories do exist, I guess now’s the time to speak up.
