Former Bad Boy artist Shyne, who took the fall and served 9 years in prison for a 1999 nightclub shooting involving Diddy & then-girlfriend J-Lo, has finally spoken out on how his association with Diddy ruined his life.

Shyne has always maintained his innocence over the shooting that saw three people injured in a New York nightclub in 1999. Whilst Diddy, his bodyguard and J-Lo all walked away with no charges, Shyne was convicted on charges of assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of an illegal weapon, and spent nine years in prison. During his trial and for years since, Shyne has insisted that he never shot anyone, and was the ‘fall guy’ for Diddy on the night.

Amazingly, Shyne is now a politician in his native Belize (he’s the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives, in fact), and has now spoken of the nature of his relationship with Diddy to the Belizean press:

To refresh everyone’s memories of the night in question – a fight broke out in the VIP section, shots were fired, and amid the chaos, Shyne got tagged as the shooter while Diddy & J-Lo fled the scene. Diddy hired and paid for Shyne’s defence lawyers (which seems a bit sketchy), and watched as witnesses who previously testified that Diddy was in possession of the gun changed their stories in court. In fact, one of the victims, Natania Reuben, who was shot in the face on the night, maintains TO THIS DAY that it was Diddy who shot her. Which you’d think was pretty compelling evidence for the court to consider, but nope.

And so, Shyne got locked up for 9 years while Diddy went on living and loving life. The worst part about it is that as soon as Shyne was released, Diddy dropped him from Bad Boy Records, and Shyne was then deported back to Belize, with his music career utterly f***ed. How’s that for gratitude?

The good news is that Shyne seems to have turned his life around back in his homeland. He found God, gave up the gangster rap lifestyle, and as we said, is now a politician. But with Diddy now in custody and facing very serious charges that will likely see him locked up for life, it must be a pretty sweet moment for Shyne to savour, and he can now also take the gloves off and say whatever he wants to say about Diddy and his experiences with him.
