Rape of Nanking Massacre - Bodies

Another testimony, from a survivor reads as follows:

“The seventh and last person in the first row was a pregnant woman. The soldier thought he might as well rape her before killing her, so he pulled her out of the group to a spot about ten meters away. As he was trying to rape her, the woman resisted fiercely … The soldier abruptly stabbed her in the belly with a bayonet. She gave a final scream as her intestines spilled out. Then the soldier stabbed the fetus, with its umbilical cord clearly visible, and tossed it aside”.

This slaughter, torture and general destruction of an entire town continued for six weeks until early February 1938. Those that were not killed on the spot by the Imperial army were led to the outskirts of the city and ordered to dig their own graves. They were beheaded, shot, or in some reported instances, forced to bury alive their countrymen. This image was taken at one such event:

The violence slowly died down and the Japanese settled in to wait out the rest of the war. To keep citizens subdued they introduced opium and heroin to people of all ages. As many as 50,000 Chinese consequently became heroin addicts. Another twisted Japanese ruling was the Comfort Women system. This rule basically forced young Chinese women to be the sexual playthings for the troops.
