Everyone and their mother knows that hosting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was a moronic idea on multiple levels, but I still had to check that this following infographic was real because it’s simply that crazy to expect football fans to adhere to most of these rules…
No alcohol, no profanity, no loud music or sounds and no immodesty? Have they even been to a football match? Curious by its absence is ‘no drugs’, but if you’re dumb enough to be caught using those in Qatar then you probably deserve everything you get. What about streaking and starting fights? Is it even a World Cup if these things aren’t happing before, during and after games?
So even forgetting about reports of thousands of workers dying to build the stadiums, the Fyre Fest-style facilities, and kit suppliers boycotting the event due to Qatar’s human rights abuses, it’s still an absolute farce on every level. Money talks though, and that’s the only reason this event is going ahead despite all the drama and potential issues, and the fact we’ve had to turn the football calendar upside to make it happen in the Winter.
Paris has decided against having fan zones:
Paris will not broadcast World Cup matches on giant screens in public fan zones amid concerns over rights violations of migrant workers and the environmental impact of the tournament in Qatar.https://t.co/dgddqaDBUm

And Denmark are wearing these kits:
This shirt carries with it a message.
We don’t wish to be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives.
We support the Danish national team all the way, but that isn’t the same as supporting Qatar as a host nation. pic.twitter.com/7bgMgK7WzS

At the FIFA World Cup, Denmark’s uniform has been designed in protest of Qatar’s human rights record👇

Obviously it’s the World Cup so we’re excited about it and are still going to catch every game, but I’m actually not bummed at all about not being there in person. I mean, not even being allowed to swear? It’s like they don’t even know they’re hosting the World Cup. What if someone takes a disliking to you and grasses you up for drinking/swearing/being gay even though you’re not doing any of those things?
Who knows, maybe everyone there will be perfectly behaved and have a good time anyway, or maybe the authorities will relax a little bit once proceedings actually get underway. On the surface though it looks like a disaster waiting to happen come November.
