It can’t be easy being Vladimir Putin’s daughter right now – secret or otherwise. So spare a thought for 18-year-old student Luiza Rozova who has received such a relentless torrent of abuse and Ukrainian flag emojis over the last week that she’s deleted her social media profiles.

Luiza is the daughter of cleaner-turned-multimillionaire Svetlana Krivonogikh; now a part-owner of a major Russian bank and one of Russia’s wealthiest women. BBC journalist Andrey Zakharov broke the story that Luiza was Putin’s secret lovechild last year, but when he asked the teenager about it, she played it coy, only conceding that she “looks similar to him”.

Well that’s good enough proof for the trolls on social media, who have been sending Luiza messages calling her a “rat”, a “daughter of a murderer, war criminal, psychopath and drug addict” and saying many other unkind things about her and her father. Obviously there’s a few people making the point that it’s not Luiza’s fault that she’s (allegedly) related to Vladimir Putin, but those appeals to rationality are few and far between. In the end – they’ve bullied the poor girl all the way off the internet.

Of course it could be that Luiza isn’t related to Putin at all, in which case she’s kinda brought this on herself by not denying it when asked by reporters. But think about what denying it would cost her – potentially thousands of Instagram followers and dozens of headlines! Every teenage girl’s dream!

Well anyway, let’s hope Luiza is back with a bang on Instagram once this all dies down a little bit. We’ll all just pretend like it never happened!
