A Sunday roast is somewhat of a tradition in the UK and there are many debates every week over where the best roast in the area is located. However, I don’t think I would ever wait four years to eat somewhere even if it was supposedly the best roast in the country.

These are the current waiting times at the The Bank Tavern on John Street in Bristol City Centre though, after the restaurant was voted the best roast in Britain back in 2019 and also came out on top of the Bristol Good Food Awards in 2018. Now, a new study commissioned by UK card payment provider Dojo has determined that it’s also the hardest restaurant in the world to get a reservation at with an insane four year wait time.
Apparently the pub only has seven tables and so can only seat 40 diners, with tables only being able to be reserved for an hour and 45 minutes. They reckon that they get through 16o roast dinners a week, so by my calculations that means that 30,720 people have a table reserved there at the moment, which doesn’t really sound too realistic to me? Still that’s what Dojo are saying so I suppose we had better believe them.
Anyway, here’s what landlord Sam Gregory had to say about the menu:
We don’t repeat the same menu and although we always have beef we also do pork, some vegetarian options and perhaps venison or poultry.
We change the starters and desserts weekly so the menu is never the same.
Most of it though is down to the herculean effort of our head chef and kitchen team.
That sounds nice sure – and it looks awesome too – but I’m not sure why he’s changing the menu every week because it’s not like anyone is coming back for repeat meals anytime soon because they’re fully booked out for the next four years? Seems like they’re making it a bit more difficult on themselves but I suppose there’s no substitute for greatness is there?
