Man United v West Brom
This will be a tough task for Manchester’s number one team. (One good season doesn’t make you the best, just means you had one good season). However, United’s players will be brimming with confidence after their resounding win at White Hart Lane and will desperately want to get to that City game at the end of April with the same, if not better, points gap. This is also the part of the season where United really start to dick teams all over the park to the extent that criminal charges should be brought against them for sexual assault.
West Brom have been in a rich vein of goal-scoring form in the last couple of weeks banging in five against (possibly the worst to play in the Premier League) Midlands side and black-country rivals Wolves; a win that cost Mick McCarthy his job. The following week they steam-rollered Sunderland; banging in four against Martin O’Neill’s boys. Then last week they beat Chelsea at home, they only scored the one though.
This game is a match-up between everybody’s second favourite manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, and everybody’s third favourite manager, Roy Hodgson. Two of the most experienced managers in world football…just with varying degrees of success. (N.b before you think I have tripped myself up, Ferguson is United’s first favourite, Hodgson remains third).
My prediction: Man United 4 : 2 West Brom — With West Brom’s recent goal-scoring form and United’s not so solid defence there will be goals for West Brom, but unfortunately for the anyone-but-United brigade, United will score more.
