After resurfacing earlier this week with a brand new DNA test that she says ‘proves’ she is related to Gerry McCann, the Polish lady who insists she is Madeleine McCann was arrested last night moments after arriving in the UK.

Police greeted Julia Wandelt, also known as Julia Wendell, at Bristol Airport and arrested her on suspicion of stalking and harassing Kate and Gerry McCann. For some reason, they also arrested her friend – a woman in her 60s – who she had travelled to Bristol to visit.

23-year-old Julia went viral back in 2023 after starting up a bunch of social media accounts with the handle @IamMadeleineMcCann. She hired a private investigator, a psychic, and even had an appearance on Dr. Phil.

Julia has taken multiple DNA tests since then but the McCanns won’t give her their DNA to compare it to. Her tests have all come back saying it’s super unlikely that she is Madeleine – one said she’s 100% Polish – but she’s kept trying until she’s got one that she claims proves Gerry is her father.

The ‘proof’ from the latest test is a 69.23% match from Julia’s DNA to DNA found at the crime scene where Madeleine was abducted in Portugal. Which might seem significant and worth looking into, but it’s probably not strong enough to suggest a father/daughter or sibling relationship, maybe a cousin at most.

She also alleges experts have matched her eyes, teeth and voice with those of Madeleine McCann. Which seems hard to believe. I mean, how can you match the voice of a 3-year-old British girl to a fully grown Polish woman? How can you compare a toddler’s teeth with a grown woman’s? Also, as has been outlined many times before, Maddie has a very distinctive eye mark that you would think would still be there in adulthood.

It’s all just very difficult to take seriously, especially given how desperate it seems Julia is to be identified as Madeleine McCann. Even to the point that she’s dismissed her own birth certificate and childhood photos shown to her by her own parents (she claims to have memory loss from her childhood).

Julia’s representative, Surjit Singh Clair, confirmed news of the arrest this evening and said:

‘I’m trying to find out what’s happened but it appears Julia has been arrested at Bristol Airport this evening just after she got off the plane.

‘The police have reportedly arrested her on an allegation of stalking and harassing the McCanns.’

We’ll have to wait and see what the authorities decide to do with Julia Wendell, but obviously it’s no good having her running around and harassing Maddie’s parents and interfering with a (semi-open?) criminal case. Any new leads there btw? Still blowing millions of pounds on it? Cheers.
