The former San Antonio police officer who shot a teenager eating a burger in his car in a McDonald’s car park has been arrested and charged, reports Sky News.

You can see for yourself what an unbelievably unnecessary and f*cked up shooting it was in the footage below [obviously skip the video if you think it will upset you too much]:

17-year-old Erik Cantu, who was shot several times, remains unconscious and on life support. The ex-cop, 25-year-old James Brennand, had been on the force for seven months and was still in his probationary period at the time. He faces two counts of aggravated assault, because two people were in the car when the shots were fired (a 17-year-old girl was unharmed, aside from the trauma, I imagine).

So why did this dumbass cop feel the need to open fire on a teenager eating a McDonald’s in his car? Well, at the time, he was responding to reports of an unrelated disturbance at the McDonald’s. He spotted Erik Cantu’s car in the car park, and recognised it as a car that had apparently evaded him the night before during an attempted traffic stop. This led him to believe the car was stolen (it wasn’t), and so when Cantu put the car in his reverse with his door open, Brennand filled him with lead. Unbelievable.

Hopefully this trigger happy idiot gets the book thrown at him, and an investigation is carried out into the quality of training at the San Antonio police department. If this wasn’t all caught on bodycam, who knows what kind of story this cop would have given to justify what he did?

Most of all though, let’s hope young Erik pulls through and regains consciousness soon.
