Remember a couple months back at the World Snooker Championship when a grown man was caught in the background of the BBC’s broadcast nibbling on a child’s ear? Here’s a reminder:

The clip went ridiculously viral as disturbed social media users debated whether this man was the child’s father and/or whether anything noncey was afoot, and now 2 months on the police have finally issued an update following their investigation into the anonymous ear-nibbler.

According to South Yorkshire Police, despite widespread concern that something sinister was happening, ‘no crime was committed’ and so they have closed the investigation, pending any further information.

A spokesperson told Metro:

Following review of the video, officers have determined no crime has been committed and the investigation has been filed.

So I guess we can conclude from that that this man is indeed the boy’s father, and what was happening in that clip was just good old-fashioned familial affection between a father and son? I guess maybe that’s a cultural thing where some people will say it’s completely normal whereas others will say this sort of contact between a parent and child is completely inappropriate. The kid seems completely unphased by it, so that’s worth pointing out.

In any case, an investigation has been carried out and the police say it’s all good, so we just have to trust their findings on that one. In fairness, it must absolutely suck being this guy and having a bunch of people online accuse you of being a paedophile and potentially have your life ruined over it.

The man’s identity was actually revealed by internet detectives a while back, and apparently he deleted all his socials after being doxxed. Here’s hoping everyone can move on from it now…
