I can’t say I’m too familiar with plus-size influencer Remi Bader’s work. She’s got 2.1 million followers on TikTok and 444k on Instagram, so she’s clearly got a sizable online following. Recently, the 26-year-old shared a video with her fans blasting the Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk, New York, for not allowing her to ride horses on their grounds due to her weight, captioning the clip with the following:
“Shoutout to Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk for making me leave because I weigh over 240.
I’ve rode horses before and have never had this issue. Please adverise this on your signs for the future.”

In fairness to Deep Hollow Ranch, they do list their weight limit policy on their website, also stating “You should keep in mind that these animals start feeling significant strain and pain when carrying a person weighing more than 20% of its weight.”
Unfortunately Bader never looked this up (who does?) and so it must’ve been very awkward for her when she turned up on the day and was told she was too heavy to ride the horses. Obviously there’s no ranch in the world that wants to turn you away unless they’re trying to go out of business, and so they were just following their own policy that resulted in this unfortunate situation.
They did end up having to profusely apologise though, because things got a lot worse from there. Some teenage intern who works at the ranch decided to respond to Bader’s TikTok complaint by calling her “fat b**ch”, which is just unfathomably stupid any way you look at it. Deep Hollow issued the following apology on their Facebook page:
“It has come to our attention that a TikTok video was posted regarding the ranch and a teenage employee posted a response that in no way represents nor is aligned with the views that the owners of the ranch hold. We would like to apologize to anyone who this offended and we do not condone or agree with any part of that employee’s video.”
Bader sent this statement to People, which suggests there’s more to her complaint than just being turned away from the horses:
“I’d never want to take down or make a small business look bad unless I TRULY felt it was necessary. I posted for a reason and that’s not because of me being denied to ride the horses. I get it, some places have weight requirements and I’d never want to hurt the horses, but it was the way I was spoken to and laughed at by the owner and the way I was treated overall. What I experienced in person was only supported later by the owner’s son’s video, who made very clear that they did not want me there because of my weight and that is truly disappointing. …
I truly feel that every time I get into a better headspace and feel a boost of confidence, it gets shut right back down with experiences like this. It’s sad the words of others can do that, and I wish it didn’t affect me, but it has become normal for me to have to accept the body-shaming and experience daily from social media and in person, and it really just gets exhausting. I will never understand why my size could actually bother someone so much. I really never will.”
Well if that’s really how it went down, then I guess she has a legitimate bone to pick. The way this is being presented around the internet is that an entitled plus-size model is unfairly picking on a small business for simply following policy but if they really did insult her and laugh in her face in person then she’s got a ride to be annoyed. Not a very smart idea messing with a girl who’s got a pretty large online audience!
If only it was just a case of some influencer acting dumb and entitled without any regard for the horses’ welfare, we could just make fun of her and move on. As of yet though, no more details are forthcoming and I don’t even know if the Ranch are going to bother dealing with the situation any further. We’ll keep you posted.
