The act that finally got police to take action was when Plumpy sent a death threat to Channel 5 presenter Nick Wallis (undercover as ‘Nick James’ in the sting). He text this message to the phone Channel 5 used to set up the sting on him:
I GOT UR ADDRESS ND I NO ALL UR MOOVZ SO I GOT U HIT MAN ON HIZ WAY2U BELIVE ME 1 BULLET IN DE HEAD.
Eloquently put. This text appeared to be the final nail in Plumpy’s coffin, as it gave the police the kick up the arse they apparently needed to do their jobs and go after him.
Finally, over 3 years later, on December 18th 2014, Plumpy AKA Hachen Mustafa was sentenced to 25 months in prison for one count of handling stolen goods (the laptop) and two counts of harassment without violence (death threats). There should have also been convictions for robbery, fraud and assault on the laptop owner, but the crimes originally reported in October 2011 hadn’t been properly investigated.
It’s a satisfying end to a story about a crime that went unpunished for far too long and which served to highlight how screwed up the legal system really is in the UK. The fact the victim had all this evidence, including eBay accounts linked to items bought on his card and webcam footage of Plumpy logging into a porn account bought on the stolen card wasn’t good enough.
The story is covered in far richer detail and with plenty of footage of Plumps for you to laugh at over at Plumpergeddon.
We’ll let you know when Channel 5 announces an air date for Caught On Camera: Plumpergeddon edition and leave you with this video of Plumps during more blissfully-unaware times:
